Enjoy the abundance of fresh fruits that we have available at this time of the year – nectarines, peaches, mango, cold watermelon and cherries – they make great snacks and deserts for adults and children, sweet and ripe to keep the sweet tooth happy. Grapes and cherries on the cheese platter for a fresh alternative. Fresh fruit salad for desert instead of high sugar options
- Take 1-2 Digestive Enzymes with every meal, to support digestion so you don’t feel full and bloated after eating richer foods than you would at other times of the year. Ask me about my high strength Enzymes.
- If you don’t have the enzymes on hand, the next is a home remedy for feeling bloated and uncomfortable after over-eating. Apple cider vinegar. Mix 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar (preferably Braggs- available at supermarkets) to ½ cup water and sip; or have before meals.
- Drink water, water and more filtered water: For a refreshing change have cold mineral or soda water and add juice of lemon or lime to it
- When socializing – make your first drink a non-alcoholic drink – ie soda and lime. If you start with wine, beer, bubbles you will be more likely to eat more of the snack foods and not feel like the “real” food when it is served
- When the heat really kicks in – add 1 teaspoon of mint flavoured Chlorophyll to a glass of cold water and ice cubes. It looks “exotic”, tastes nice and refreshing and very hydrating. The number of chefs I have given this tip to over the years as they cook up a storm in the hot kitchens can vouch for how hydrating this drink really is. Added bonus, chlorophyll has a great detoxing effect –which may be beneficial for some people at this time of the year
- Make sure you are eating plenty of fresh crunchy salads when it is too hot to eat veggies – high in vitamins, minerals and enzymes. High on taste, low in calories.
- The fantastic Fibroplex Plus (Practitioner Only Product that I stock) is a great all-round formula to have on hand. It contains: Vitamin B’s which will help if you find the festive season all too stressful. Magnesium is a great relaxant for uptight muscles and the combination of other nutrients make it an excellent “electrolyte” type formula to keep your energy levels up when it is hot.
- Keep up your exercise routine – even a gentle walk first thing in the morning is better than nothing.
- First aid for Skin – aloe vera is fantastic for sunburn (and all burns) helps to retain the moisture in the skin and will lessen the likelihood of peeling after getting sunburnt. Lavender – very soothing to add a couple of drops to the aloe vera for sunburn. You can put lavender onto mosquito/sand-fly bites and it will reduce swelling, redness and itching.
